Herbal Remedies for Children's Health

Complementary medicine use is continuing to rise; However, a recent Health Canada survey indicated that Canadians feel unsure about which natural remedies to purchase for the most effective care. This course will provide the knowledge to make informed choices as well as increase safe and effective use of natural remedies. Learn to care for children using safe, effective herbal remedies. Discussion will include common ailments such as colds, coughs, flus, fevers, basic skin issues, and digestive upset.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Be familiar with 15+ herbs specifically suitable for children. For example, Lemonbalm, Hyssop, Chamomile, Thyme, Calendula, Lavender, Elder, Ginger, Licorice, Linden, and Dandelion
  • Understand types of herbal remedies appropriate for children
  • Be comfortable managing basic ailments including colds, coughs, flu, fever, skin issues, and digestive upset with herbal remedies
  • Create a list of remedies to stock your own family herb kit

Who should take this course?Parents and primary caregivers of children who are generally healthy other than common ailments. Particularly parents of children aged 1-10 interested in general health maintenance for use at home to complement primary health care. Common ailments will be discussed, but those seeking care for chronic or severe conditions should consider additional individualized care and proper assessment elsewhere. No previous herbal knowledge is needed.

Effective use of herbal remedies can improve care and reduce duration of illness, the risk of complications, and the stress impacted on the whole family. Parents will leave with increased understanding of their options and practical knowledge.
